Power out? Electric utilities in Greater Boston

Some towns around Boston have their own municipal light plant. Use the outage page for the utility on your bill.

How Hot Tub Helpline works in Greater Boston

We're a video service, not a local shop, and we don't have an office in Greater Boston. You book a call, point your phone at the topside, the filter and (with the power off) the equipment bay, and a real hot tub tech guides you by voice. Many problems can be diagnosed, and often fixed, in one call. If yours needs hands-on work, we'll help you find a local pro.

Flat prices, shown before you book: Quick Fix $49 · Full Diagnostic $89 · Priority Fix $139.

Outage or a tripped GFCI?

When your hot tub goes dark in Greater Boston, first work out whether it's the spa or the grid. If the neighbors and streetlights are out too, it's an outage: report it to your utility (links above). If everyone else has power, check the spa's GFCI and your breaker panel. SRP, Arizona's big utility, puts it simply: if your breakers are tripped or your neighbors have power, the problem is likely inside your property. A GFCI that won't reset is a job for a licensed electrician (see GFCI keeps tripping).

When the power comes back, check the topside for messages. Many utilities, SRP among them, suggest turning off appliances during an outage so there's no surge when power is restored.

Freezing weather and outages in Greater Boston

A covered, running hot tub protects itself: Balboa explains that when its sensors detect freezing conditions, the pumps turn on automatically to keep water moving. The risk is when it can't run. In a long outage in freezing weather, freeze protection stops, and that's when pipes, pumps and heaters get damaged. If your spa will be without power for a long time in a freeze, get a local spa tech involved early.

Not using it this winter? Hot Spring recommends draining and winterizing a spa that will sit unused in severe cold, ideally by a dealer, and using only propylene glycol antifreeze, never automotive antifreeze. See how to winterize a hot tub.

Common questions

Do you have a hot tub technician in Boston?

Our techs help by video, from anywhere. You show the tech your hot tub with your phone and they guide you by voice. If the job needs someone on site, we'll help you find a local pro.

Who do I contact when the power goes out in Boston?

Your electric utility. In Boston that's usually Eversource or National Grid. Use the outage page on its website (linked on this page) or the number on your bill. If only your hot tub is off and your neighbors have power, check the spa's GFCI and your breaker instead.
