Gecko hot tub error codes
Gecko Alliance makes the in.yt, in.ye, in.xe and in.yj controls used in many spas. These meanings come from Gecko's Y-series and in.xe troubleshooting guide.
What each code means
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| FLO | No water flow detected while the main pump is running. |
| HL | The system stopped because water in the heater reached 119°F. Do not enter the spa water. |
| OH | Spa water reached 108°F. Do not enter the spa water. |
| Prr | A problem with the regulation (temperature) probe. |
| AOH | Temperature inside the spa skirt is too high, raising the control system's internal temperature. |
| UPL | No low-level configuration in the control's memory; an in.stik is needed to program the control. |
FLO: the checks Gecko lists
- Make sure the circulation valves are open and the water level is high enough.
- Make sure nothing is blocking the filter.
- Make sure no air is trapped in the plumbing. If there is, Gecko says to start the pump and slowly unscrew a union nut to free the air, then tighten it.
- Make sure the pump linked to the heater is actually running.
Gecko's guide gives a minimum flow of 18 GPM (68 LPM). Checks on the in.flo cable, configuration and heater wiring are technician steps.
HL, OH and AOH: what Gecko suggests
- Confirm the temperature with a digital thermometer and compare it with the keypad.
- OH in hot weather: take the cover off to let the spa cool, add cold water and reduce filtration cycle length.
- HL: with care (the heater body may be very hot), make sure nothing is blocking flow: closed valves or a dirty filter. Then turn the spa off and on to reset.
- AOH: remove the spa skirt and let things cool until the error clears.
If the errors persist, Gecko's next steps are probe, heater or control-system replacement, which is tech work.
What you can safely do
Water level, valves, filter and airlocks are homeowner checks. Probes, heaters, cables and the control pack are not. A tech on video can confirm which part the code points to on your specific control before you order anything.
Common questions
What does FLO mean on a hot tub?
On Gecko controls, FLO means the system detected no water flow while the main pump was running. Check that valves are open, the water level is high enough, the filter isn't blocked and there's no air trapped in the plumbing.
What does HL mean on my Gecko spa?
HL means the water inside the heater reached 119°F and the system shut down. Stay out of the water. Check for blocked flow (closed valves or a dirty filter), then turn the spa off and back on to reset.
What does Prr mean on a hot tub?
Prr means Gecko's control has detected a problem with the regulation (temperature) probe. If it doesn't clear after a reset, the probe or heater assembly usually needs a technician.
