Inflatable hot tub error codes

Inflatable spas use a heater-pump unit with its own codes. The most common ones are flow errors, and they're usually about the filter.

Electrical safety for inflatables

Test the safety plug. Inflatable spas plug in through a built-in safety device (an RCD/PRCD/GFCI on the plug). Test it as your manual says, and don't use the spa if the test fails. Don't use extension cords unless your manual specifically allows it, and unplug the unit before troubleshooting.

Lay-Z-Spa (Bestway) E02: no water flow

Lay-Z-Spa's official E02 guide says the error means a water-flow problem. Its steps, in order:

  1. Make sure the water is between the minimum and maximum lines.
  2. Clean the filter cartridge with lukewarm water (no detergent), or replace it if it's still dirty or breaking down.
  3. Check and flush the debris screens; in hard-water areas, calcium build-up is common.
  4. Make sure the stopper caps have been removed from inside the liner, then power-cycle and press reset.
  5. Backwash the pump as described in the guide.

Lay-Z-Spa keeps a full list of its pump codes (E01 to E18 and GCF) on its error code page. Check your exact pump model, because codes can vary by model.

Intex E90: no or low flow

Intex's E90 guide lists the likely causes: filter cartridges in the wrong place, dirty or swollen cartridges, blocked suction fittings, or air trapped in the cartridge housing. Its steps:

  1. Turn off or unplug the control unit first.
  2. Make sure the cartridges are on the correct (outlet) connections.
  3. Try running the filtration pump with the cartridges removed. If E90 goes away, install new cartridges.
  4. Remove and clean the suction fittings (grids) inside the tub.

When it's a tech job

If a flow code comes back with a clean filter and clear screens, or you see heater or sensor codes, the pump unit itself may need service or replacement under the manufacturer's warranty. A quick video call can confirm which before you ship anything back.

Common questions

What does E02 mean on a Lay-Z-Spa?

E02 means a water-flow problem. Lay-Z-Spa says to check the water level, clean or replace the filter cartridge, flush the debris screens, make sure the stopper caps are removed, and reset the pump.

What does E90 mean on an Intex hot tub?

E90 means no or low water flow. Intex says to check the filter cartridges are on the right connections, try running without cartridges, replace dirty or swollen ones, and clean the suction grids.

Why does my inflatable hot tub keep showing a flow error?

The usual cause is a dirty or swollen filter cartridge. Blocked suction screens, low water, stopper caps left in, or scale in the pump are next. Work through the maker's steps before assuming the pump has failed.
